The passports are then placed in a small pouch and passed to a small immigration office / booth near the jetty. After the crossing into Laos, the passports were returned with a small slip of paper stamped as proof of entry into Laos.

You show your passport and pay a small fee to officers/staff at golden Triangle and take the boat to economic zone in Laos. It’s a small island with shops etc., not much to see but still it’s worth a visit.
Sounds pretty forgettable and am wondering why so many make the trip.
