Hi Matt, July is a pretty busy month as the floodwaters have arrived but I would suggest a) you can base yourself in Maun and stay at a Backpackers’s and do your activities from there or b) depending on your budget ( I know you don’t want to spend too much!) but if you could look at flying/ driving into a camp from Maun possibly an overland trip with a local operator?
