Hi, Lilly, my husband and I are going to be traveling through Manchester next June after we finish a tour of Scotland. I saw this town when I was looking at tour routes and since my maiden name is Ratcliff and my ancestors come from the area, I thought it might be a wonderful trip to see the Manor, St. Mary's church and town. I understand we can take the tram from Manchester but I wondered if we can see the town on foot or if there is public transportation in the town itself. I so want to make this excursion happen. Hi Jenny. I wouldn’t bother wasting your time coming to Radcliffe. You can’t see the tower because it’s all fenced off to stop vandals. The church is quite nice but other than that …
Hi Jenny. I wouldn’t bother wasting your time coming to Radcliffe. You can’t see the tower because it’s all fenced off to stop vandals. The church is quite nice but other than that there isn’t anything else to see in the town apart from a few pubs and supermarkets. If you are coming this way, I recommend the East Lancashire Railway in Bury which is just a few miles from Radcliffe. The tram from Manchester City centre takes about half an hour. There is also an art gallery, a transport museum and the Fusiliers museum in Bury just a short walk from the heritage railway station. Hope this helps.
