It was no surprise to Avalanche Head Coach Jared Bednar that MacKinnon downplayed his accomplishment that saw him join Joe Sakic and Peter Stastny as the only players in franchise history to reach 1,000 points.

Nathan MacKinnon appeared to have reached the 1,000-point milestone in the first period of Colorado's game against Chicago. His teammates even streamed onto the ice to celebrate his history-making assist.

Nathan MacKinnon had two assists to reach 1,000 points for his career and the Colorado Avalanche scored twice early in the third period to beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-0 on Monday in Denver. Scott Wedgewood made 20 saves for his second shutout of the season and the eighth of his career as the Avalanche completed a 6-0-0 homestand.
