State Democrats want to send Oklahoma’s new social studies standards back to the drawing board. The standards require the approval of the state legislature before they become official.

Curriculum experts suggest that partisan framing within the subject can compromise students’ skill-building in analytical and critical thinking.

The new standards across multiple grades would include more than 40 references to the Bible, “Judeo-Christian values” and Christianity. They would not make any direct references to other world religions until secondary grades.
