Salmon prices are soaring in Japan due to dwindling populations in the country's waters, and climate change is the culprit.

Chum salmon, a migratory species widely consumed in Japan, is losing out to a relative in a battle over food resources in the Northern Pacific Ocean triggered by global warming, a study found.

This year's Yukon River chinook and fall chum salmon runs are expected to be slightly better than last year's, but are once again unlikely to meet even the lower end of Canadian conservation targets.
