At least 16 people were killed in weather-related fatalities this week, including tornadoes that destroyed entire neighborhoods.

As communities in the central US grapple with widespread devastation from a line of deadly storms that spawned dozens of tornadoes this week, forecasters are warning of another grave threat to the region: relentless rain into the weekend,

South and Midwest, still reeling from violent storms, tornadoes and flooding that have killed more than a dozen people, face new flooding and tornado warnings that forecasters said could last for days.

Heavy rains, damaging winds and dangerous floods have ravaged the South and the Midwest for days, killing at least 23 people.

The rising water levels have prompted rescues and road closures. The storm, which has killed at least 16 people, doesn’t show signs of letting up.
