Last week, state legislators announced they’d secured $10 million for the Karuk Tribe to build a center to host cultural and prescribed fire trainings in rural northeast Humboldt County.

He still uses cultural fire to care for the land around his home. Today, he’s also the director of natural resources and environmental policy for the Karuk Tribe in northern California.
