In Siberia, archaeologists just uncovered a 2,500-year-old Tagarian burial containing a warrior couple, an older woman, and the scattered bones of a newborn.
Scythian women adorned themselves with tattoos portraying the animals they hunted. It was believed that these tattoos offered magical protection, and also used to commemorate acts of bravery.
“The Amazons are common Scythian phenomenon and during the last decade our expedition has discovered approximately 11 burials of young armed women,” said Valerii Guliaev, head of the expedition.
