PepsiCo’s Poppi acquisition proves just how rewarding disrupting traditional categories and building a strong brand can be, even in highly competitive spaces.

Over the last few years, emerging healthier soda alternatives have disrupted the traditional soda market like never before. They are growing in popularity due to newer generations' more health-conscious approach and attention to ingredients in the products they consume.

Grundy said the poppi deal makes strategic sense given ongoing pressures within PepsiCo's ( PEP) North America Beverages segment. While adding Poppi is not seen as a transformational deal, the pickup was noted to closely resemble the company's other tuck-in M&A deals over the past 15 years.
