U.S. health officials are asking retailers to pull a small number of acne creams from their store shelves after government testing found they contain slightly elevated levels of a chemical associated with cancer.

Some acne treatments from brands including Walgreens, Proactiv and La-Roche Posay have been voluntarily recalled for containing elevated levels of the carcinogen benzene, the Food and Drug Administration announced Tuesday.

(Gray News) – The FDA announced a retail-level recall Tuesday of several popular acne treatments. The FDA said 95 acne products containing benzoyl peroxide were tested for possible benzene contamination.

Some acne treatments from brands including Walgreens, Proactiv and La-Roche Posay have been voluntarily recalled for containing elevated levels of the carcinogen benzene, the Food and Drug Administration announced Tuesday.

The FDA is warning consumers about a recall involving 95 acne products containing benzoyl peroxide due to benzene contamination.

A total of six products are being recalled, including products from Proactiv, La Roche-Posay, and Walgreens. The FDA says testing revealed the products contained elevated levels of Benzene which is found in crude oil and gasoline.
