张一鸣1983年出生于福建龙岩。他的父亲曾是一名公务员，后来创办了一家电子产品加工厂。他的母亲是一名护士。他的父母喜欢新事物，给了他一个自由的成长环境。这也让他对新事物产生了兴趣。2001年，他考入南开大学时，选择了软件工程专业。那时，张一鸣就立志要创造一些有价值的东西，比如制造芯片。
