The on-the-field rivalry may be cold but the off-the-field battles between Notre Dame and Michigan for elite Midwest talent remains as strong as ever.

Junior forward Isaac Howard scored the game's lone goal just 19 seconds into the third period to give Michigan State a 1-0 win over Notre Dame.

MSU continued to grind down Notre Dame, which only mustered four shots in the third trailing by one. The Spartans held a 46-18 advantage in shots on goal and controlled play for most of the 60 minutes.
