Dr. Rasha Alawieh, a doctor and assistant professor with a visa to work in Rhode Island, was deported to her native Lebanon over the weekend despite an ongoing dispute over her detention by federal agents and a court order intended to keep her in the United States.

Court documents say Customs and Border Protection violated a court order to halt the deportation of Dr. Rasha Alawieh, which the agency allegedly carried out “without any justification.”

Rasha Alawieh, an Assistant Professor at Brown University, was detained at Boston Logan Airport despite holding a valid H-1B visa. Her detention remains unexplained, and her attorneys claim she was not allowed legal counsel.
