Donkey Kong is back with a new look in Donkey Kong Bananza. Revealed during today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, the game will be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 on July 17, 2025.
Nintendo closed out its big Nintendo Switch 2 Direct this morning with the surprising announcement of a new platformer starring Donkey Kong. The game is called Donkey Kong Bananza and does not appear to be part of the Country series of games, though there were references to the beloved 2D platformer.

Rather than Mario taking center stage, though, this time it's Donkey Kong's turn to have a giant world to explore, and as you'd imagine, he'll be taking a slightly different approach to solving problems.
Nintendo just held a livestream to drop more details on the forthcoming Switch 2 console. At the very end, it revealed a brand-new 3D platformer starring Donkey Kong. This is the first game of its type since Donkey Kong 64 hit the Nintendo 64 all the way back in 1999.

Donkey Kong has been pulled up to the majors. The 2D platforming star is back in a 3D adventure for the first time since the absolutely terrible Donkey Kong 64. Fortunately, things look way better in Donkey Kong Bananza for the Switch 2.
