眼外伤是眼科急诊最经常见到的病种，随着现在人们的自我保护意识增强，大部分人在眼部受伤后都会到眼科就诊检查。但是仍有部分人群对眼外伤重视不够，不及时就诊，最终导致延误治疗和视力不可逆性损害。 眼外伤包括机械性眼外伤和化学性眼外伤。

这也是眼科最急的急症之一。表现为突发视力下降，看灯光时有彩虹样条纹或者光圈，称为虹视，伴有明显眼睛胀痛，严重者有剧烈头痛、反复恶心、呕吐等症状，大多在傍晚或者夜间发病。很多人因有剧烈头痛和恶心、呕吐症状而到神经内科和消化内科就诊从而延误诊断和治疗。
