Top-seed Houston and No. 6 BYU represented the Big 12 Conference in strong fashion on Thursday, kicking off the NCAA Tournament with victories. Meanwhile, both Kansas and Texas Tech are set for action later during the evening session of the opening day of March Madness.

BYU broke the game open after the break, going up 20 with 16 minutes to play. With VCU trying to take away BYU’s three-point attempts, the Cougars punished VCU inside. BYU finished with 39 points in the paint.

Both BYU’s nine game win streak and Big 12 tournament stay have come to an end. The Cougars were vanquished by No. 2 Houston Friday night in Kansas City, falling in 74-54 fashion to arguably the best team in the sport.
