The Justice Department said it believed the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department had violated residents’ Second Amendment rights through delays in issuing the permits.

The DOJ said it is likely that wait times for concealed carry permits are "unduly burdening, or effectively denying" 2nd Amendment rights for Angelenos.

The investigation comes after a federal judge agreed last year that the over 18-month delay to get a concealed carry permit from the sheriff's department likely violated the constitutional rights of two plaintiffs.
