Gaze skywards at night in April and there are a host of celestial highlights to hold your attention from the Pink Moon and the Northern Lights to the Lyrid meteor shower. The days may be getting longer and the window for night sky watching smaller but there is still plenty to look out for when the sun sets.

The best time to view the Lyrids is when Lyra, the Northern Hemisphere constellation from which the meteors appear to radiate, is above the horizon, according to EarthSky . As the comet travels, it leaves a trail of ice and dust moving thousands of miles per hour in its wake, astronomer Dean Regas said.
