Berkin Usta, an Olympic alpine skier who competed in the Beijing Games, and his father were tragically killed in a hotel fire on Thursday, despite the resort being closed in January.

Turkish Olympic skier Berkin Usta died on Thursday in a fire at a ski resort hotel in the country's northwest, the Turkey Ski Federation said.

An Olympic skier and his father are dead after a fire broke out at a closed ski resort and hotel in Turkey. The victims have been identified as Yahya Usta, president of the Turkish Ski and Snowboard Teachers Association, and his 25-year-old son Berkin Usta, a skier who represented Turkey at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games.
