Seattle Mariners reliever Troy Taylor, who emerged as a key bullpen arm down the stretch last year, reached 97.9 mph in his first rehab outing.

Matt Brash, who missed all of last season, has had a longer road recovering from Tommy John surgery, but he too is nearing a return. Brash threw bullpens and live BP in Arizona, and was even able to get into a game at the very end of spring training.

Taylor (lat) was spotted playing catch Sunday and is expected to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Tacoma this week, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. Seattle placed Taylor on the 15-day injured list Thursday due to a right lat strain,
