Sure there are plenty of animes with adult characters but is innegable that the overwhelming majority is just 16 years old kids doing crazy stuff.

The MC even points out how dealing with the early signs of "getting old" make PE class extra difficult for him without doing some kind of damage like pulling a muscle. As a 30+ myself I gotta say that was some of the most relatable "adult life" stuff I've seen in an anime.

2020年8月6日 · In most anime taking place in the modern day, beards aren't common simply because they're not super in fashion in modern Japan. A character might have stubble for a disheveled appearance, but full beards are usually reserved for older characters.

They look and act like fully mature, animated adults who are commonly involved in very mature settings or dealing with adult problems. There's zero visual difference between 15 year old anime characters and 25 year old anime characters. And, with anime being a visual art, most people are drawn to the characters they find visually appealing.

Depending on the context its usually more like "mister" than "geezer" but usually most unknown people that anime characters talk to are old enough to be "geezer" level, I suppose. To a certain extent this is also due to the fault of a lack of creativity on the translator. There are alternatives, like: pops, gramps, old-timer, or even old dude.
