2018年8月30日 · The way an animal perceives color varies with the species. Primates (e.g. humans, other apes, monkeys) have three cones: red, green, and blue. Other mammals have only two cones: yellow and blue. So your cat or dog can't tell red or green apart, much less all of the forms of "yellow". Yellow, because there's no way it can tell the difference between real yellow and red plus green. Paints work by subtracting colors, not by adding them. Blue subtracts red and green, and yellow subtracts blue. When you mix blue and yellow paint, the color that is least-subtracted is green.

For example, many people believe that the cone responses are RGB, or that the red-green axis is L−M and the yellow-blue axis is (L+M)−S. If that were true, then the L cone would have to have a second peak in the violet to explain why violet has red in it.

2021年7月23日 · I am aware that magenta is not a 'real' (i.e. spectral) colour and is a result of stimulation of both the blue and the red cones in our eyes. However, when the red and green cones are stimulated (by red and green light), we get yellow -- a colour that can indeed be found on the spectrum and which lies between red and green.

So if we have light of 440 nm, it results in the color blue. If we have light of 540 nm, it results in the color green. If we see light of 650 nm, it results in the color red. I think I understand our ability of the brain to mix the results of the signals of these receptors, producing colors like yellow.

For an additive system, light is created directly (like a computer screen). For a subtractive system, a certain reflected light is created by absorbing the opposite color (like in a newspaper).

Any single visible wavelength of light excites these to some degree. So, for example, a beam of strictly yellow monochromatic light excites the red and green cones, but not the blue so much, because yellow falls between red and green in the rainbow. If two beams of light, one red and one green, were mixed in your eye, the result would look yellow.

2019年1月31日 · That's why red and green light together looks yellow: when our eyes detect both red and green light, our brain perceives it as yellow. Similarly, most "blue" paper does not reflect just blue light. Rather, it reflects light most strongly in the "blue" range of wavelengths, and/or reflects light whose wavelengths average out to be in that range.
