As of July 1, 2020, Linfield College is Linfield University. This is the third time Linfield’s name has changed in its 162-year history. Founded as the Baptist College at McMinnville in 1858 and shortened to McMinnville College in 1883, it became Linfield College in 1922.
About Linfield University
Linfield University is one of the oldest institutions of higher learning on the West Coast. It traces its origins to a Baptist-led school established in 1849 in Oregon City. It eventually relocated and was chartered by the Oregon Territorial Legislature in 1858 as the Baptist College at McMinnville.
