Das Przewalski-Pferd ist eine Art aus der Gattung der Pferde (Equus) und gehört damit zu den modernen Vertretern der Familie der Pferde (Equidae). Innerhalb der Gattung bildet es mit dem Hauspferd (Equus caballus) eine enger verwandte Gruppe, die sich von den Zebras und Wildeseln absetzt.
