2022年7月27日 · During 2016–2019, we were able to collect 112 jungle cat records, considerably increasing the 21 records of the National Red List of 2012. Sri Lanka has four species of wild cats; the Leopard (Panthera pardus), the Fishing Cat (Prionailurus viverrinus), the Jungle Cat (Felis chaus) and the Rusty-spotted Cat (Prionailurus rubiginous). All of them are considered nationally threatened, while the Leopard is considered a globally threatened species.

We used citizen science and inexpensive method-ology to assess the distribution of the jungle cat Felis chaus, a relatively common species in Sri Lanka but the least studied of the four wild cat species occurring in the country.

2022年4月12日 · Jungle cats have been reported from northern monsoon forests of the dry zone and in patches southwards through Puttalam and Chilaw up to Kurunegala. The rusty-spotted cat is the smallest of the four wild cats with an average head and body length of 37 cm for females and an average mass of 1.5 kg for males and <1 kg for females (Miththapala, 2006).
