With additional design changes, the Colt "New Model" bayonet (above) was standardized as the U.S. M7 Bayonet-Knife for use with the 5.56 mm. NATO caliber U.S. M16 assault rifle. The M7 bayonet is not just a M4 Second Production bayonet with a larger muzzle ring. The M7 hilt (and grips) are longer than the M4.

The M8 was a 4.5-inch (114 mm) rocket developed and used by the United States military during World War II. Produced in the millions, it was fired from both air- and ground-based launchers; it was replaced by the M16 rocket in 1945.

2015年12月31日 · In searching for Makers and contracts for US military bayonets, I have found all of the makers (to my knowledge) except the maker of the US M8A1 scabbard marked WD. The photo above illustrates 4 that I currently have in my reference collection.

2018年10月22日 · In the spring of 1944 the scabbards were transitioning from M8 to M8A1, though some that met the new M8A1 profile still had the U.S. M8 marked throat. Might be hard to say for sure when they ran through the last of the M8 metal plates.

2013年9月14日 · The M8A1 was introduced in 1944 and replaced the M8. The difference was that the M8A1 had the hanger extended slightly and the double hook attachment added so the scabbard could be used on the standard cartridge and pistol belts. The continued to be marked M8 for some time after adoption, so you have to go by the hanger.
