Performs as the essential surface, air link in Personnel and materiel recovery by functioning as the rescue and recovery specialist on flying status as mission crew or as surface elements.

In April 1955, the 129th Rescue Wing, California Air National Guard, based at Hayward Airport, California, was activated as the 129th Air Resupply Group. The unit’s mission was airlift of personnel and material using C-46 aircraft.

The 129th Rescue Wing plans to deploy approximately 90 of its unit members, including highly trained Guardian Angel pararescuemen to Texas to provide search and rescue support for the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

The HC-130J replaces HC-130P/Ns as the only dedicated fixed-wing Personnel Recovery platform in the Air Force inventory. It is an extended-range version of the C-130J Hercules transport. Read more
