The 4kids censors/dubs were real dumb back in the day. They're also the reason why yugioh had "shadow duels" and the "shadow realm" because saying someone's soul was going to hell was too dark for a kid's show

Basically, 4kids was a company that adapted anime for young American audiences, so they censored a lot… one famous line is them replacing “rice balls” with “jelly donuts” but without actually redrawing the food, making it seem like Brock is just an idiot.

2019年12月13日 · Controversial opinion: saying they’re “jelly-filled donuts” isn’t 100% wrong, just 75-80% wrong. Umeboshi is pickled plums and are often a little mashed when put in the center of onigiri balls. So they could kind of be considered jelly (not that you should ever use it as jelly).
