In element by element refinement, the three inherent directions of a Hex are refined in one step using one of seven templates. Because of its computational superiority over directional refinement, but its inability to handle concavities, element by element refinement is used in all areas of the specified region except regions local to concavities.

Tensor product element refinement (quad, hex, prism) is supported, including anisotropic refinement. Hanging nodes are created and handled transparently. Triangles and tetrahedra use "red" (isotropic) refinement, also producing hanging nodes in this mode.

2023年12月21日 · Hi, i have posted below a sample where i need to refine the mesh at interface of 2 components with contact as bonded. The mesh is using Hex8 elements. On applying contact sizing i do not see any refinement on the bigger block. Only when I enforce tetrahedral meshing that I am able to apply the contact sizing for refinement at interface.
