Entitlement: range of measures comprising compensation, income restoration, transfer assistance, income substitution, and relocation which are due to affected people, depending on the nature of their losses, to restore and improve their economic and social base.

Compensation will be lump sum, cash payments by LHDA into community trust fund accounts, to be used under agreed conditions by the communities for their own resource replacement and/or other economic or community development programs.

These assets are largely owned by households entitled – in terms of the LHDA’s Phase II Compensation Policy. Economic displacement relates to the loss of up to 1,200 ha of cultivation land at the various project sites, especially the reservoir area.

A Compensation Policy for Phase II, which defines the range of losses and specifies compensation and relocation entitlements, has been prepared in consultation with affected communities, local authorities in Mokhotlong District and other stakeholders. The Compensation Policy was approved by the Project authorities in August 2016.
