Look at every current penn state wrestler, they’re all multi-time state champions, from REPUTABLE states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New Jersey, who’ve also won or placed high at large country-wide tournaments like Fargo, while having near-perfect GPA. So short answer, 1 state title isn’t gonna get you into penn state.

Ohio state is second in 2025 and 2026. I don't see a chance for Ohio State in 2026. The 'young guns" are good - no doubt. Ohio State could have three champs in 2026. But look at Penn State's young guns - Haines - 1st (soph), Messembrink 2nd (Freshman), Kasak 3rd (Freshman), Van Ness 3rd in 2023 (soph eligibility).

2024年4月10日 · I feel like you’re dismissing how stacked the wrestling rooms are for schools like Michigan, Iowa, Arizona State etc. they all have guys trying to make world teams to learn from and challenge themselves with. Penn state is the best by a lot but no high schooler could walk into Michigan’s room and not feel challenged

2022年12月15日 · The truth about Penn's success is that they recruit the best people and when they don't, they lose like everyone else. The second string at Penn does not look any different than the second string at any other schools. Anybody who has been around wrestling for awhile knows that Cael is literally just a quiet guy.

Look up Devin Schnupp - 125 who walked onto Penn State by emailing Cael Sanderson (and presumably a lot of other coaches) seeing if they had space. Cael just lost his 125 and did. But getting on the team is only half the battle- the kid basically became a meme for how badly he got crushed all the time.

However my son is now at an absolutely elite club (Olympians,state champs to roll with etc.). He looses half the time, although the other day he finally scored a takedown on an Olympic alternate (a very big progression). There are usually at least …
