More modern verbs for making a telephone call are to phone and to call. I don't know whether there's a more modern term that retains the element of the call being successful, but there is a slightly different word that could be used in combination: connect Verb 1.3. Put (someone) into contact by telephone: "I was quickly connected to the police"

An order is placed by one and taken by another. It seems appreciate to call a person who takes an order a "order taker", but I don't know how to refer to the one who place an order. Possible choices: order placer; order submitter; order putter; Either a word or a phrase is OK.
