Visual cortex - Wikipedia
The area of the visual cortex that receives the sensory input from the lateral geniculate nucleus is the primary visual cortex, also known as visual area 1 (V1), Brodmann area 17, or the striate cortex. The extrastriate areas consist of visual areas 2, 3, 4, and 5 (also known as V2, V3, V4, and V5, or Brodmann area 18 and all Brodmann area 19). [1]

2024年2月22日 · The primary visual cortex (Brodmann area 17 ) is also known as the calcarine cortex, striate cortex, or V1. It is the main site of input of signals coming from the retina. It is located on the medial aspect of the occipital lobe, in the gyrus superior and inferior to the calcarine sulcus. Most of the cortex lies within the deep walls of the ...

Adapted from Polyak (1957) V1 extends rostrally almost to the lunate sulcus and posterolaterally almost to the inferior occipital sulcus; the V1/V2 border is met before either sulci.

What is the primary visual cortex and what does it do? The primary visual cortex, often called V1, is a structure that is essential to the conscious processing of visual stimuli.
Primary visual cortex is also known as area V1 or striate cortex1. Primary visual cortex is the first stage where information from the two eyes converges onto individual neurons. The human neocortex is about 2-4 mm thick; it is characterized by multiple convolutions such that it can fit about 2600 cm2.
