If you are going with one tweeter, I would recommend the biggest ribbin you can afford, not stressing the ribbon's lower ranges. If more than one can be used, I would use a ribbon for supertweeter (maybe >12-15kHz) and use something like ring radiator for below that.

Ribbons (high end) are amazing as well as domes. Room is more important than the divers at a certain price point. RAAL tweeters are in another league. BE domes are superior as well. it's hard to really say since the execution matters so much more.

Dome tweeter is coated with a silk dome, which provides mellow and smooth sound quality. Still, they are not durable compared to the metal tweeter, so people looking for durability should choose metal tweeters instead of silk ones.

A regular dynamic speaker with a coil and magnet (cone or dome) is usually the most efficient (higher SPL output at a given wattage). Add a horn and you can get more loudness/efficiency (with more directivity challenges, I think). Most PA speakers use horns.

2008年12月21日 · I think Dynaudio have proven the point for the favor of soft silk dome tweeters - utterly smooth and detailed. Then again, a composite dome material such as the B&W aluminum with a diamond substrate has it's merits, price being no object of course.

2005年4月12日 · To make your quest more complicated, the ribbon/planar are actually two different drivers. There is a pure ribbon tweeter like Raven, AC, Fountek, etc. and there is magnetic planars which are made differently than pure ribbons. Some call these isodynamic planars. To confuse you more, some companies call their magnetic planar a ribbon tweeter. /hehe

"I'll Be Loving You (Forever)" by New Kids On The Block. At the beginning of this song, there's a little sparkly bit. With a silk dome tweeter, it just sounds like sparkles. Cool.
