Does having a longer Ethernet cable slow your connection?
2016年8月17日 · Ethernet cables come in a few different varieties: cat 5, cat 5e and cat 6 are currently in (reasonably) wide use. Cat 5 doesn't officially support gigabit Ethernet, but with a short (e.g., 1 or 2 meter) cat 5 cable that's in good physical condition, you can often get a seemingly reliable gigabit connection anyway 1.
layer1 - Minimum Ethernet Cable Length? - Network Engineering …
2018年12月21日 · => There is no minimum cable length for twisted-pair Ethernet. If a device or a cable doesn't work with a very short link it can be considered broken. ("Copper" also includes ancient coax cabling which does have minimum spacing of 2.5 m (10BASE5, Clause 8.6.2.2) or 0.5 m (10BASE2, Clause 10.7.2.1) - but I don't think that was the question.

2013年5月24日 · While most other answers have talked about Length limits, Interference issues and are all correct. One important factor while choosing the cable is the speed of the network and the devices you plan to use. The general specifications for currently available ethernet network speeds are as follows. Twisted Pair Copper Cable Category 5e

There were days when installed 8-wire cable was used to provide two 8P8C connectors (a.k.a. "RJ45"), but equipped with just 4 wires each (1,2,3,6), to "save some money", and of course because 100Mbit/s Ethernet was a big thing back then and because it ran fine on just two twisted pairs. Saving money that way has a veeeeery long tail, as we now see.
Ethernet cable used two ways - Network Engineering Stack Exchange
2015年8月18日 · However I would like not to do the same on the other side of cables. Hence I would like to have two 100Mbit connection, but the ethernet cable in the router from one connection will have nonsense on the unused wires. It is possible to split a single 8-wire UTP cable into two 100Mbps cables that only require 4-wires. But then both sides of the ...

Which Ethernet cable should l use to connect two office buildings?
2022年10月21日 · Great! Of course, "Ethernet cables" aren't copper/TP only, there's also fiber. Inter-building and vertical cabling is supposed to be done in fiber. Also make sure you're placing an open conduit, so you can easily replace the cable in the future. I chose the CAT5e PVC STP Cable, but l have read that there is need for grounding.
ethernet - RJ45 Cable only has 4 wires - Network Engineering …
2018年12月19日 · There is a lot of crap cable sold, and many manufacturers have run into legal problems. You seem to have the pin numbers backward (1, 2, 3, and 6 are required for even 10 or 100 Mbps ethernet both straight-through and crossover). Those may be the only pins connected, but the other wires may be in the cable and cut off (not in the connector).
theory: connecting two computers with ethernet cable
2016年4月30日 · You need to read up on the ethernet standards. The earlier ethernet standards, without Auto-MDI/X, required crossover cables when connecting two like devices (e.g. host or router to host or router, hub or switch to hub or switch), but dissimilar devices (host or router to switch or hub) could use a straight-through cable.
