2006年1月14日 · The first thing I have to weld is mild steel to mild steel The second thing I have to weld is mild steel to chromoly 4130 1/8" wall tubing (as a doubler for new shock mounts) The mild steel in both cases is 1.25 diameter .063" wall tubing. Its part of a sandrail frame I got used, I would imagine it is A513 Type 5, or similar.

2009年1月19日 · Re: Welding mild steel to chromoly? It's all light stuff I'm welding. The 4130 has a wall thickness of only 0.058 and the mild steel is roughly about the same thickness.

2008年4月28日 · It will flex, and go back better than mild steel. Many times, I will mix the tubing up, using the 4130 for main parts, and the mild for small gussets. Mild has the better cost, and is easier to work, especially if you don't have very strong bending equipment. Mild is also much less likely to crack, it will likely bend long before it tears.

2009年12月29日 · Re: Chromoly v mild steel I built a 'kit' 'experimental' sailplane (started, anyway), 35 years ago, which involved welding a chrome-moly cage together. FAA inspectors would NOT allow home 'amateurs' to weld any way but ox/acet with mild rod, they claimed we could lay down 'perfect' welds which would peel off the tubing.

2011年10月17日 · From the American Welding Society, Welding Journal: ""When welding 4130 chrome moly in the normalized condition, AWS ER70S-2 filler metal, with its low carbon content; is the proper choice. If the part is to be heat-treated after welding, then a filler metal matching the 4130 chemistry should be employed.

2008年7月20日 · Without heat treat, you never want to use 4130 filler on 4130 base material. It will be very susceptible to cracking. Mild steel filler rod, either 70s2 or 80d2 are the rods of choice for TIG welding the parts together, with 80d2 being preferred for suspension components. I'm assuming you mean a set of upper control arms for the rear suspension.

2007年9月16日 · Re: Chromoly and stainless steel Don't use backing gas, but drill a small hole in any tube that will be sealed off on both ends. Failure to do so will cause a blowout right as you finish the bead up, and then you've got your hands full of tricky repair work.
