Apatite is a group of phosphate minerals, usually hydroxyapatite, fluorapatite and chlorapatite, with high concentrations of OH −, F − and Cl − ion, respectively, in the crystal.

It is derived from the Greek ἀπατάω (apatao), to deceive, in allusion to apatite often being confused with other minerals (e.g., beryl, milarite). The designation "Apatite Group" has been used with different definitions in the history of mineralogy.
