Get a spray bottle and mist the plate to add water, a small amount will take it from not enough to too much, how much will be obvious.

Jun 24, 2015 · Boron carbide is harder than the hobbs of hell, just under diamond. I use it only to lap tungsten carbide parts, silicon carbide for everything else. It's aggressive as heck and goes after the lapping plate and rings at a high rate. I'd expect 15 or 20 micron to scratch.
