Croatian is a South Slavic language spoken by about 6.7 million people mainly in Croatia, Slovenia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is an official language in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and in the province of Vojvodina in Serbia.

2020年7月15日 · The Croatian inscription is written in the Croatian Glagolitic script. This script originates from the 9th century and was constructed by Saint Cyril and Methodius who translated liturgical books into languages that will be understood among the Slavic people.

In Croatian, č is referred to as tvrdo č (hard č), while ć is a meko ć (soft ć). The main difference between them is how hard the sound is pronounced. Č sounds like ch in “charm” or “match”. The distinction is pretty much the same between tvrdo dž and meko đ: Again there’s no exact English counterpart to đ.

2024年5月14日 · Ljudevit Gaj designed the Croatian alphabet we are using today. He introduced letters č, ž, š and ć. Additionally, he invented letters dž, lj, and nj modeling them after the similar solutions in the Hungarian alphabet.

There is a total of 30 letters in the Croatian alphabet. Every letter in the Croatian language has only one way that it’s supposed to be pronounced. There are no silent letters or special combinations of letters that are pronounced as one sound. That makes reading and writing in Croatian quite easy!
