Today, the Molokai Light is as iconic to the Kalaupapa Settlement as the towering sea cliffs.

Moloka`i (Kalaupapa) Lighthouse Most of the long northern shore of Moloka`i is lined by dramatic sea cliffs that drop over 3,000 feet to the ocean, but near the middle of the island, the Kalaupapa Peninsula extends oceanward from the base of the cliffs for a couple of miles.

It is constructed out of concrete and replaced an earlier, temporary light that was installed on a 34 foot mast in 1906. The light was designed to work in conjunction with another one directly across the water on Oahu, guiding ships between the islands.
