These textures represent real planetary maps in equirectangular projection. You can use them in 3D rendering, or just open them in any image viewer and explore the surface of planets :)

Specular Maps: Specular maps mark surface areas covered by water, so Celestia can render these ares with specular reflections, i.e. they appear more shiny. The Planetary Visions team has built a unique collection of planetary texture maps of the Earth and planets using the latest data from Earth orbiting satellites and interplanetary spacecraft. All of the texture maps are in a projection suitable for 3D rendering.
