In this case, it’s cochineal dyed, raveled cloth and that places these in the late 1870s - 1880s timeframe. There’s two sides to every story… and every Navajo weaving. In this case, we have a Teec Nos Pos double saddle blanket with a beautiful, colorful design on the “A” side. The other side, or the “B” side, is fairly worn and the color has faded a great deal. There could be a multitude of reasons why one side is preserved and the other isn’t and unfortunately it does effect the value. However, that doesn’t mean they’re worthless. It’s no secret that I love Navajo weaving and this 1890s Germantown is one of those textiles that really sums up why I love them so much. This piece tells an amazing story and shows what influenced this weaver at the time it was made. You see, the pictorial elements on this Germantown show two distinct pieces of Native American jewelry.
