Cassowaries can grow up to two metres tall and live for up to 30 years, although individuals have reached almost twice that age in captivity! This World Cassowary Day, drivers are urged to be ‘cass-o-wary’ on the roads, as, over the past 12 months, there have been 21 cassowaries killed in road strikes – making road collisions the leading cause of reported cassowary deaths. Southern Cassowary 🦤 The Most Dangerous Bird on Earth!

The cassowary is a large flightless bird found in Papua New Guinea, southern Indonesia and northern Australia. They belong to the group known as ratites, which also includes ostriches, emus, and rheas.The cassowary has a horny helmet called a casque (say cask) , on its head. Some scientists believe that this helps it crash its way through the thick forest.
