You don’t have to pick all the calendula petals off. You can use the whole calendula bud. The green part where the flower attaches to the stem is sticky and has a lot anti fungal properties. The stickier the buds the better. Just like another plant we know about 😉 But if you do use the whole caléndula flower, make sure they are thouroughly dry, since that part of the flower is thicker it will dry a tad slower.
