Follow IG @bigcatsnamibia Now!! Lions kill other predators for several reasons: 1. **Competition for Food**: Lions and other predators like hyenas, leopards, and cheetahs often compete for the same prey. By killing their rivals, lions reduce competition for food resources. 2. **Territorial Dominance**: Lions are territorial animals. By eliminating other predators within their territory, they can maintain control over a larger area and ensure better access to food and mates. 3. **Protection of Cu

A chilling video has been circulating on WhatsApp, showing a truck driving into oncoming traffic on Tuesday (6 August). This dashcam footage recorded shortly before 06:00 in the Vergenoeg area en route to Swakopmund, demonstrates how vehicles recklessly overtake others on national highways. Follow👉 IG @bigcatsnamibia Now! Wild dogs - Nose Grab - Why ? 1. Control : Grabbing the nose helps immobilize the prey. The nose and mouth area are crucial for the prey’s breathing and biting capabilities. By targeting this area, the wild dogs can exert more control over the animal. 2. Reduce Injury Risk: Prey animals can be dangerous, especially those with horns or sharp hooves. By latching onto the nose, wild dogs avoid these potential weapons, reducing the risk of injury to themselves. 3. Qu

Follow👉 IG @bigcatsnamibia Now! African wild dogs, often employ sophisticated hunting techniques to catch their prey. One such technique involves driving their prey into challenging terrains like mud or water. Driving prey into mud or water helps the wild dogs. Mud and water impede the prey’s movement, making it easier for the dogs to catch up. These terrains can limit the prey’s ability to escape, trapping them in a confined area. The exertion required to move through mud or water quickly exha

A terrible wound that now has a chance to heal! Sea water will help clean the flesh. We've seen these animals recover from terrible wounds, they are incredibly resilient. What about sharks smelling the blood? Seals are apex predators in our waters (meaning they are on top of the food chain) they do not have major ocean predators in this area. #ocn #oceanconservationnamibia #sealrescue #plasticpollution #capefurseal #ghostgear

The OCN crew had the opportunity to patrol a new area about 60km South of Pelican Point. We had received reports about entangled seals from local tour operators and we decided to look for ourselves. With over a million Cape Fur Seals along the Namibian Coastline alone, we often wonder how bad the entanglement situation actually is. We will never be able to save all of them, but we had a very successful morning with 28 rescues. #ocn #oceanconservationnamibia #sealrescues #plasticpollution #raisin

Our rescuer, Tony, is at the local harbour patrolling for entangled seals. We often find entaglements in this area because of the polluted waters. Namibia's coastal area is actually considered clean compared to other developing nations; a scary thought considering how many animals get entangled here. This poor animal looks very skinny. The line around his neck stopped likely hindered it from eating. At least now he has a chance to get stronger! #ocn #oceanconservationnamibia #sealrescues #sealre

With a little patience, Tony (Ocean Conservation Namibia rescuer) manages to slip the rope off the seal's neck. The seals at the local harbour often get entangled, there is always trash in the oceans in this area. We are in discussions with the fish processing plants to implement simple strategies to avoid trash blowing in the ocean. An example of one of these strategies is to have coverings for skips, which are usually overflowing with trash. What simple strategies can be implemented at your wo
