Owl Sounds

This egg is from a Spectacled Owl (Pulsatrix perspicillata), a South American owl species that is being artificially incubated as a part of the Center's captive propagation program. We utilize artificial incubation to ensure consistent and appropriate temperature and humidity throughout the incubation period allowing for a consistently higher hatching success rate. 🐣🦉Thanks to the light from a tool called a candler, you can see the blood vessels inside the shell that supply nutrients from the
