Meet the artist who combined Western-style painting with Japanese wood-block prints. Hiroshi Yoshida began his career as a painter. He travelled widely at the beginning of his career, seeking inspiration from across the world. After visiting the United States in 1923, he realised that there was a huge market for Japanese prints. He opened his own print studio inside his house, creating a richly coloured series of prints based on his watercolour paintings that were inspired by his visit to the U.
